Oh What a Day.....

Oh What a Day.....

Woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head, alarm clock spoke and I went up to breakfast.   Met up with Neil and Becks and we had brekkie whilst watching the sea and were rewarded with a pod of dolphins.

Soon followed by G & Simms and then the Somerset Mob. land came into view  and we noticed snow on mountains .....

I made an executive decision that we would all wear thermals and waterproofs based on the optimistic view that IF it got too hot we would be happy to stop and disrobe. Chance would be a fine thing!!!

We were all waiting in the bike bay of the ferry with all the other bikers talking about out planned journeys and what we hoped to do, whilst sweating in the cold weather gear. Suddenly the doors opened, the bikes revved up  and we were ascending the ramp into the daylight. We waved goodbye, wished each other well and safe rides and our pack were gone on the road to Bilbao.

Between Santander and Bilbao it was dripping but really enjoyable and I just loved riding the Virago, the others were in a similar state of euphoria. Then it got darker and wetter as we climbed the mountains, then it started lashing down ad I was happy with the" lump on "the clothes on decision.

Graham was suffering, either the onset of flu or something but he was not feeling too good. Also the Harley is not comfortable over 70mph so G was sticking to a steady 60mph. The group went ahead only to be caught up at a motorway services some 40 minutes later.

We elected to leave early as G was riding slowly (Still feeling crock) and thought the group would catch up.Well after more deluge and waterproof testing by the Gods we finally saw the Laguardia sign and turned off the motorway.

The last 8 clicks to Laguardia were an eternity and it was such a relief to see the hotel.

Warm shower - Dry clothes - Great. Checking in we left a pool of water round reception, but the rooms are great and very comfortable indeed.

I kitted out the bathroom as a drying rack and cleaned up and went down for a well earned cerveza. Well about 40 mins later a bedraggled wet mob entered the hotel, steam was rising off Neils head and they did not look happy.

There was some miscalculating on miles and petrol so they spent 40 minutes circling in the rain looking for petrol, then having fueled up proceeded to Laguardia and then got lost and spent another spiraling 40 minutes in the pithing rain looking for the hotel.(Lesson  to Bikers - If you stop and there is petrol - EVERYBODY TOP UP).

They got in, calmed down when they saw the cool hotel, soon we were in the bar telling stories

and drinking the local AMBAR Nectar.

A good supper and to bed for a well earned sleep. Blog done more tomorrow.

What a rainy adventure! Glad the outcome was a cozy hotel and local brew. (-:
